Google Trends - API for SVG?

Google just announced Google Trends yesterday, which allows you to see graphs of news/search results over time. Currently images are displayed using the DOM and raster graphics but I wonder if there's an API for this new service and whether SVG output can be enabled?

(I also wonder why Google doesn't render the results in SVG for browsers that currently support it. Seems like it would make the data more accessible for end-users and require less server-side work for Google. Same applies for Google Finance, too.)
